Concirrus sponsor St Philips Primary School in 2019 Uckfield Mini Grand Prix.

The highlight of the year for many Sussex based primary schools is the popular Uckield Mini Grand Prix, part of Uckfield’s yearly festival. The Grand Prix hosts teams from more than 22 local primary schools who compete by racing Greenpower Goblin class cars over 12 laps (including pit stops) in a bid to be named the 2019 champions. This year’s Grand Prix style race took place on Sunday 14 July and was hosted by T R Fastenings with 24 cars and more than 250 children taking part.

This year Concirrus proudly sponsored ‘Team Galaxy’ from St Philips primary school

Craig Hollingworth, MD of Motor at Concirrus said, “What’s impressive is that every car at the Grand Prix is built entirely from scratch by the students, with a little help from willing parents and teachers. Each car is also fitted with a sensor to track their position and the results, it’s like being part of an official Formula 1 GP. Hopefully the Uckfield Grand Prix is inspiring future F1 drivers with such a fun event.”

The students start with a car kit comprising of over 100 parts and they have to build, test and wrap their cars in time for race day. Drawing on the creative skills within their team, Team Galaxy managed to find the time to design their own team t-shirts for the big day, featuring the Concirrus logo.

After squeezing in as much practice as possible and wearing their team colours, Team Galaxy headed to the event. The team; drivers, pit crew, mechanics and supporters all worked together to take part in two qualifying heats and a high-pressure final in a bid to lift this year’s trophy. Team Galaxy stormed heat two, taking first place and placed fourth in heat seven. But unfortunately, their luck didn’t last, and they were knocked out in the semi-finals, piped to the post by ‘Weaving You Behind’ in Final C. The Grand Final saw the following teams secure podium finishes: 1st Rock On, 2nd F4ST, 3rd Manor 1 Crazy Karts, 4th Team Bonners. Full results can be found here. Overall, the day was a huge success minus an injury (or two!), you can read more on the thrills and spills from the day at Uckfield News

We look forward to seeing St Philips compete in 2020 and it maybe we could use Quest Motor to detect new behavioural risk patterns in kit cars to help the team in 2021!
